Restoring the Past, Building the Future
The project involved the restoration of a Listed Church in Cullybackey as well as the construction of a two storey extension to provide a community facility. Restoration works comprised of new slate roof coverings, a new solid ground floor, a new concrete internal fire escape including support walls, re-bedding and fixing of existing stonework, removal and repair of stonework that was in a dangerous state, removal of an existing concrete staircase along with infilling and the installation of new isolated steel beams. Mechanical installation work included above and below ground drainage, gas fire boiler installation and a new ventilation system. Electrical installation work included new light and power as well as the commissioning of a new passenger lift. Multiple stakeholders were involved in the restoration process; the key to the project’s success was keeping the numerous funding bodies informed at all times which involved dissemination of information at various levels throughout the project.
