Official Opening of the martin & hamilton Training Centre

18 August 2016

As part of martin & hamilton’s corporate social responsibility strategy, each year a charity is supported. The highlight so far in 2016 has been the opening of a new training centre by Hillcrest AIDS Centre Trust (HACT) in South Africa on 8th July 2016.

HACT is a non-profit organisation that was founded in 1990 and exists to serve people impacted by HIV and AIDS by providing support in a practical and sustainable way.

The new facility, which can seat up to 40 people, was developed from former garages and will be used by HACT to run community training and skills development programmes such as its life skills and peer education programmes for local schools and its parenting skills workshops.

David Hamilton, Managing Director of martin & hamilton commented,

We are very happy to have been able to help Hillcrest AIDS Centre Trust in the creation of the new training centre. We recognise that people are what make any company or organisation successful, so as a sustainable company, we believe it is always important to engage with communities on initiatives such as this to help improve the lives of others. We are honoured to have the training centre named after our company and wish the management and users every success for the future.”

David Hamilton and Leslie Adair (Health & Safety Officer) have been to South Africa four times in the past ten years and have built up contacts and local knowledge in and around Durban. Through this experience, they have learned the advantage of having someone on site who can clearly assess practical issues involved and who has a good knowledge of local facilities and resources to ensure, as far as possible, best value in completing a project.
